I'm Addicted to Unregulated Health Food Store Steroids HELP!
For at least ten years I've taken every day either Adrenal Complex or Licorice Root Extract capsules for sufficient strength. In direct and less direct ways I'm boosting my adrenal system with unregulated steroids, and this worries me. It's possible I will never be able to quit these things. I've tried to taper back and currently take just a half capsule of one or the other every day. At one time I was taking two capsules per day and exercising A LOT. (I looked quite "hot" for a finite interval. It was unintentionally a reverse experiment of those performed by famous models and starlets, when they don fat suits and report back what life is like for other people.)
After the honeymoon phase resulting from unregulated health food store capsules boosting my strength, a strange "locking" in the digestive tract occurs especially on days when I take just the Licorice Root Extract. By "locking" I mean digestion gets stuck, "oxidation" halts, which means air bubbles are not reaching your brain throughout the day. Oxidated air bubbles should travel up to the head the way respiration of a fish travels to the water surface.
Lack of oxygen in the brain is affecting my work performance. One way around this problem, one way to kick-start digestion (and therefore spur oxidation) is to eat (to take) sufficient Pantothetic Acid, and also to eat cooked salted brocolli drizzled in olive oil. People in my orbit have complained about the smell of cooked brocolli. An ex-boyfriend and coworker separately complained about my lunches of salted sardines and cooked brocolli disturbing their sense of space. That is my peak performance diet, and I let their comments affect me. By writing this out, their comments affect me no more. I need my sardines and cooked broccoli.
How did this start? How sluggish was I before I started taking these supplements? I cannot remember. Maybe I never needed these supplements. However I remember when I first took them I felt a sustained energy boost and relief. I should also mention I took these supplements at the advice of an M.D., but a "wholistic health" M.D. in Marin County who later contracted Lyme's disease. Not to blame the victim, but I often wonder if the M.D. suppressed her immune system with unregulated steroids, possibly and made herself more susceptible to Lyme's.
Another thing that I suspect kept my digestion moving when I was working out a lot was upper body weight work. Having toned biceps, triceps, and upper back muscles gives a woman a tremendous feeling of being centered. It really improved my posture and made me feel emotionally strong. At that time I was working out a lot, I was eating cooked, salted broccoli three times a day. Now I eat it less than once per day.
As of this writing, I will move my broccoli habit back up to twice per day. (Should I shoot for 3x?) See you this time next week.
P.S. (The only thing better than unregulated health food store vitamins is unaccredited health reporting web sites. This one says broccoli is a super food and its "anti-inflammatory ingredients promote muscle and tissue repair" and that makes me feel good. Feeling good is good for one's health, so unaccredited bullshit has its benefits.)
Addendum: I was also eating two squares of Ghiradelli 60% Cocoa dark chocolate per day. Those were the sure-fire food to get my digestive tract to unlock itself. The problem is they are such muscle relaxers that two squares is often one too many, I discover an hour later. I'm sluggish for the rest of the day.
